Where do you go for a proper English breakfast in the Netherlands?
If a friend came over from home and asked you where to get a decent full English, where would you take them?
Maybe you’ve got a regular place. Maybe you stumbled across one on a weekend away and still mention the breakfast whenever that town comes up. Or perhaps you’re reading this because you’ve been looking for somewhere yourself.
We’d like to get a few recommendations together from people who’ve actually been, ordered breakfast and thought: yes, I’d come back for that.
The little details tend to stick. A really good sausage. Bacon cooked just how you like it. A generous slice of black pudding. Toast that turns up hot, with butter you can actually spread. Someone asking if you’d like another pot of tea.
It could be a café, a pub or a hotel that welcomes people in for breakfast. Somewhere round the corner is just as useful a recommendation as somewhere worth making a trip for. Amsterdam suggestions are welcome, and we’d love to hear about places elsewhere in the Netherlands too.
What’s the place, and what do they get right?
The name and the town are enough to get us started. Tell us what you order if there’s something you’d particularly recommend. And if there’s anything worth knowing—breakfast only at weekends, booking needed, or a kitchen that stops serving earlier than you’d expect—pass that on too.
Full Irish and Scottish breakfast recommendations are very welcome. If you’ve found white pudding, a good square sausage and tattie scones, or somewhere doing an Ulster fry with soda bread and potato bread, there will almost certainly be someone here pleased to hear about it.
Vegetarian recommendations are welcome too. Tell us what’s actually on the plate and whether you’d order it again.
There’s room for a few breakfast opinions along the way. Fried bread or toast? Beans touching the egg? Most people seem fairly relaxed about breakfast until you get to their particular rule.
If someone mentions a place you know, reply. Perhaps you’ve got a favourite order there, or you’ve been recently and can add something useful. And if you’re still searching, tell us where. Someone reading might know just the place.
